The Street Dwellers

1. Asher, Rock and Rocky

Asher, Rocky and their youngest son, Rock,  are sitting outside their makeshift home on the streets of Kolkata, India. Living on the street encompasses challenges far beyond what the average person would imagine. There's a complete lack of privacy when taking a shower, brushing your teeth or washing your clothes and these basic daily activities are only preformed when there's enough water, the right weather and fewer angry onlookers. Rocky, a twenty-seven year old janitor with only one functioning eye moved to the streets after meeting and marrying Asher.

 2. Asher Fernandez

Asher has been living on the streets of Kolkata for fifteen years. As a child, she scavenged the streets for food and begged for money.

3. Gayatri (Asher's Mother)

Gayatri, Asher's mother was forced to live on the street after her husband died and their home was washed away in a torrential downpour. Gayatri is now begging for the means to help feed and cloth her four grandchildren while working hard to hold the family together emotionally.

4. Rock (Asher's son) Napping

Amongst speeding traffic and the noise of Kolkata's busy streets, Rock takes his afternoon nap. Although it is not illegal for the family to be on the streets, they are treated like criminals. People look disdainfully upon even the most innocent.

5. The Family Clothesline

The  family's clothing is hung on the nearest city wall to dry in the hot Indian sun.

6. The Fernandez Family

Rocky is saving as much of his meager earnings as possible in order to move his family into a one room house in a nearby village. He recognizes that it is not safe for his wife, children and mother-in-law to be living on the streets and hates that they are treated as though they are trash.
